How to Have a Back Pain Free Holiday
With summer officially here, many of you will be making plans to get away for a week or two. But travelling can be difficult if you suffer with back pain. So here are some great tips from our Bournemouth chiropractor to ensure you have a happy and healthy holiday this year…

Packing Tips
Pack light. Travelling with a few light suitcases is better than taking just one heavy bag. If you can, try to travel with someone. If you are travelling alone, make arrangements so that there is always help available for lifting and carrying luggage.
Only pack the essentials. We’re all guilty of taking way too much than we need on holidays, but this can be dangerous if you suffer with back pain.
Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water before you head off and on the journey too. Hydration is absolutely crucial in helping you to reduce pain during a trip.
Tips for Road Trips
Give yourself plenty of time. Arrange your journey so that you leave in plenty of time for extra stops along the way. Every few hours, get out of the car and walk around.
Make the journey as comfortable as possible. Helpful items such as pillows, blankets and ice packs are small enough to fit in the car and can make a major difference in how comfortable you feel.
If you are able to move a little bit while riding along, focus on changing position regularly and stretching your muscles. And of course, remember to maintain good posture!
Flying Tips
Choose your seat. If possible, choose to sit near the aisle so that you have more room to stretch your legs.
Keep making small movements during the journey. Simple exercises such as heel and toe raises, arm stretches and small walks are great ways to keep your muscles moving and supple during a long flight.
Eat and drink well. Avoid things like alcohol, caffeine and salt which can all dehydrate your body and increase inflammation. Alternatives like water and cranberry juice will help your joints stay healthy during your journey.
Destination Tips
Before making a booking, call your hotel to see if they have a room available on the ground floor. It’s also a good idea to look for somewhere that offers extras such as saunas and spas and assistance with luggage.
Following these simple tips will help to keep your back pain at bay while you travel this summer.
Enjoy!
