All patients are welcome to use the free on-site parking located at the front of the clinic. Please enter the clinic and proceed to the waiting area where you may help yourself to reading material shortly before being invited into the consultation room. It is necessary for all new patients to complete an initial consultation so your specific needs can be fully assessed and you have plenty of time to ask any questions you may have. Please expect to be at the clinic for approximately 1 hour. During your initial consultation, we will:
- Inspect your current and previous health status.
- Perform a comprehensive examination.
- Provide a verbal report of our findings.
- Explore further tests if necessary
- Perform gentle chiropractic treatment.
History of Current Concern(s)
Your chiropractor will ask you a series of questions to gain a thorough understanding of your current problem(s). You will also be asked about your previous health status including any illnesses, accidents or hospitalisations. Information about any current or past medications or tests will need to be recorded so it may be useful to bring any at-hand information with you.
You will receive possibly the most thorough physical examination that you will ever experience. Focus will not just be given to the site of pain but also to surrounding areas that may be the cause or contributing towards the current problem, for instance; a person suffering from headaches or neck pain will also be examined through their shoulders and upper back. You will undergo a range of orthopaedic, neurological and functional tests as appropriate to your condition to try to establish the root-cause of the problem. To make sure that we do not miss any vital clues you may be asked to undress down to your underwear with gowns available should you wish to wear one.
Report of Findings
The goal of history taking and the physical examination is to gain all possible relevant information to provide you with a working diagnosis and management plan. Time is given to explaining the likely problem and possible causes, if and how chiropractic care may help and expected time-frame for recovery. In some cases it may be necessary to refer you to your GP or request further tests such as an X-ray or MRI before treatment can proceed. You are invited to ask questions at anytime but we will make especially sure to address any worries or concerns you may have as part of the discussion.
Treatment (if appropriate)
As long as we feel the problem is something that chiropractic care can help with without the need for any further tests, treatment can begin on your first visit. The types of treatment will have already been discussed and we will do our very best to make you as comfortable as possible during the gentle manual techniques.
After a work colleague noticed I had been suffering with my back for a few days she told me that she went to Charminster chiropractic clinic. I was able to get an appointment quickly and within a few treatments the pain had completely gone.
