Leave Back Pain Behind This Summer
Enjoy a Summer Free from Back Pain with Bournemouth Chiropractic Care
The summer holiday season is nearly upon us and many of you will soon be taking to the open skies as you make your way towards a week or two in paradise. But the thought of travelling with back pain can be daunting, to say the least. Fortunately, our Bournemouth chiropractor has some effective tips to help make your journey as comfortable as possible …

Inform the airline about your back pain
Contact the airline in the weeks leading up to your trip to tell them about your back condition. With enough notice, the airline staff should be able to accommodate your needs. This may include offering you early boarding, helping to carry your luggage and providing you with platforms for boarding the plane.
The more open and honest you are about your condition, the better equipped the airline will be to help you.
Be savvy when booking your flight
Instead of just booking the first flight you see, think about the type of schedule that is likely to be the least stressful for you. For example, taking a flight when there will be fewer people on board may provide you with more room. Booking an afternoon flight may allow you to still get the sleep that you need to help your back pain.
It’s all about thinking ahead and working out a journey that is best for you.
Support your back during the flight
An effective way to minimise lower back pain during a flight is to use a back roll or a few pillows for support. Many people take back braces, tube-shaped pillows with microfibers inside, and other supportive materials on planes. An airline assistant should also be able to provide you with basic support items if necessary.
Remember that plane journeys can sometimes be uncomfortable and a little cramped, so it’s important to watch your posture. If your legs are not positioned at a right angle when sitting on the plane, use pillows or blankets to prop up your feet to keep the stress off your lower back. If you have long legs, it’s a good idea to request an exit row for extra leg room.
We wish you all safe and pain-free journeys and wonderful summer holidays!
